I recently returned with my husband from a quick trip up to Canada. My father and my mother are from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Edmonton, Alberta. My father passed away 33 years ago when we lived in Denver, Colorado. He was creamated and a friend of mine picked up his urn and took it up to Saskatoon to be buried. I had never been back up to visit his grave and so I decided before my Aunt Doreen-my Dad's sister-wasn't there any more that I was going to go and visit her and visit my father's grave. We had a wonderful quick trip! It was 16 hours up and back and then we only stayed two days. But it was a great time and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed being around my Aunt again! I stayed 3 0r 4 summers with them and she made me laugh then and she makes me laugh now! She has a great sense of humor and I can sometimes get a glimpse of how funny my dad was, too. She is the best!! We got the chance to visit my dad's grave and I bought a little evergreen wreath to put on his grave.
It seemed appropriate as my dad loved Christmas. I know that it was probably not a big deal to visit his grave as he is not there, but it was so important to me and I am shocked to know that it has been 33 years! I am grateful for the knowledge that he lives and that I will see him again! I was surprised at how much emotion hit me when I was there and could not help wondering "What If?" My cousin Bev was always so nice to let me tag along with her and her friends when I was up there as a teenager, and she brought her friend Murray over for dinner for a couple of nights and they were a blast! It was just enjoyable visiting with them both! I am grateful that Scott was willing to drive up there with me--I almost said that he was willing to drive me up there but we all know that even if he wouldn't of come with me--I would of gone by myself! Where does that stubborn, onery streak come from??? (And how many of my poor children did I pass it on to?)
Anyway, I am so grateful for my chance to go back up there and for the great family that my father has. I love the nuts on my family tree!

How very interesting Dianne. How neat you got to visit with Auntie Doreen and that you enjoyed it!! I am positive she treasured that visit. I feel privileged that I got to know and love your father. He was a great father-in-law. I remember when I had my first fender bender in Houston traffic he was right there to help me, and when the electricity was off there he was to help again. Terry continues to mourn his death-I see it in his eyes when your dad is mentioned. He was a great guy. Did you get a pic of the grave? Michelle was wondering.
I'm so glad you made the trip. Good for you. Love ya loads, Vicki
