We need your prayers as one of our workers was lifeflighted to Salt Lake today. He got to work early this morning and one of our trucks had sat all night with a load of potatoes on it. When this happens, the belt is stretched because of the weight of the potatoes. Usually, you just tighten the belt with your wrench and it works just fine. Instead, Salvadore laid down on his back under the belt of the bed of the loaded truck. He put his feet up on the belt and told the lady truck driver to hit the gas. She did and the belt pulled his feet up and over a conveyer belt and inbetweeen the load of potaotes, the belt and the roller of the bed. Jack (Scott's brother) had to get up under the truck and saw the parts of the bed apart to release his legs. His feet are intact, but the bones in one of his legs was crushed and it was hanging on by not too much. (sorry to be too graphic) The helicopter landed by the cellar and took him to Pocatello, but when I called the emergency room, the nurse said the injuries were to severe and they lifeflighted him to Salt Lake. He is a young man with a young wife who is expecting. It was a pretty somber crew working today as we are made aware how dangerous it can be to work around machinery that is infinitely stronger than flesh and bones. We were talking to our kids last night in Family Home Evening about the dangers of Harvest and how we need to be so careful and they gave us the "eyes rolled back into their head look" like "we've heard this 5,000 times-mother!" Today they are a little more aware of how smart their parents are! |

Wow. Aunt Dianne, I am sad to hear this man has been hurt and I will keep him and your farm in my prayers at this time.
Love you, Michelle
So sad! Praying for you all! Love ya loads, Vicki
Wow that is so scary and sad. I am glad he is doing better. He will be in our prayers. Our puppy is good we have had a few dogs and they do end up costing you a lot. One of ours loved to chew all the sprinkler heads, our deck, and pretty much everything. I love them though. The dog got the name Scar but I do like Grover a lot.
Hi Diane,
Wow I am so sad about this incident. I have seen a lot of harvest accidents in my day. I hope all goes well with this young man.
I also want to say I love your blog it looks great.
take care
Wendy
